Exhaust emissions and carbon dioxide
The European Commission’s Joint Research Center (JRC) performed exhaust emission and carbon dioxide (CO2) emission testing based on the World Light Duty Test Procedure (WLTP) from two cars using: diesel, B7, HVO7, HVO30 and HVO100. One was equipped with selective catalytic reduction (SCR), the other with lean NOx trap (LNT). Both vehicles were type-approved in compliance with Euro 6. It was concluded that:
    •HVO blending reduced total hydrocarbon (THC) emissions due to improved ignition as a result of better evaporation behavior, a higher cetane number and lower aromatics
    •The car equipped with SCR produced higher nitric oxide (NOx) at 23°C when fuel contained a higher HVO content. Authors explained this result by SCR operation. At -7°C, HVO blends produce
