Alternative diesel mandate
At present, Iraq’s government does not set any mandate to use/blend alternative fuels to diesel, including biodiesel, alcohol, liquefied petroleum gas and natural gas. However, research on alternatives, such as adding biodiesel to diesel, or alcohol (ethanol/methanol) to diesel, has been carried out.
In 2009, Iraq’s prime minister approved a project by the United Arab Emirates’ company to produce biofuel from dates that were about to rot. However, there has been no further information available on this project.
