Refineries in Iran are mostly organized under the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC), under the Ministry of Petroleum.

NIORDC is responsible for producing about 250 million liters of refined petroleum products per day, and for distributing those products to all sectors, including residential and commercial sectors, and retail stations across the country.

At the end of 2021, eight petroleum refining companies were in operation. Of these, the Tehran and Abadan refining companies are owned by the government while the others are privately owned.
