Quality monitoring
The National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPD) is responsible for the supply and distribution of fuels, including liquid fuels and compressed natural gas, across the country. Thus, the NIOPD is also responsible for ensuring that the fuels it delivers meet the country specifications.
However, Iran’s fuel quality monitoring scheme is unclear, and the government currently does not enforce the specifications to be met by refiners.
In summer 2017, the Tehran Air Quality Control Company, a subsidiary of the Tehran Municipality, conducted fuel quality assessments and collected samples of gasoline and diesel from random fuel stations across Tehran. However, the results were not made public.
