Cetane
The cetane number/index is an indicator of the combustion speed of diesel fuel and the compression needed for ignition. Diesel with a lower cetane number causes ignition delays and requires more time for the combustion process to be completed. In other words, diesel with a higher cetane number influences the engine’s efficiency and is preferred by engine manufacturers.
In Sudan the cetane index is regulated, with a minimum limit of 45.
As shown in SGS Worldwide Fuel Survey data, the cetane index of all samples has been above the regulatory limit from 2017 to 2019.
