This section describes the consumption of fossil and alternative fuel for road transport in Ireland.

The figure below indicates that biodiesel is the most popular alternative fuel for road transport in Ireland, followed by bioethanol. Consumption of liquified petroleum gas (LPG) is very low. Between the years 2014 and 2018, LPG consumption peaked at 2,000 tonnes per year and for the remaining years, it was only 1,000 tonnes per year.
