GHG emissions reduction target

On October 25, 2022, during the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW), Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister (DPM), Lawrence Wong, announced a net zero emission target of 2050. This amends the country’s previous target of reaching a peak of carbon emissions by 2030, aiming to halve this by 2050.

The DPM detailed the three key factors that will affect the country’s energy transition and progress toward the net zero target:

•The reduction of the 2030 Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) carbon peak emission targets from 65 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO2e) to 60 MtCO2e

•50% of primary energy supply by 2050 should come from low-carbon hydrogen

•The first hydrogen power generation plant is planned, to begin operations in 2026, aimed at acceler
