Infrastructure for alternative marine fuels

The current EU Directive 2014/94/EU on the deployment of alternative fuel infrastructure promotes the deployment of alternative fuel infrastructure for the whole transport sector including marine, aviation and road. The Directive requires EU member states (MS) to ensure that an appropriate number of refueling points for liquified natural gas (LNG) are put in place at maritime ports, to enable LNG inland waterway vessels or seagoing ships to circulate throughout the TEN-T Core Network by December 31, 2025. The same requirement applies to inland ports but to be achieved by December 31, 2030. This Directive does not promote infrastructure deployment for other alternative fuels in maritime sector.
