Tax benefits for HVO in Finland

Energy Taxation Guidelines published on November 8, 2019, governenergy (fuel and biofuel) taxation in Finland. Differentiated excise duty applies to fossil fuels and biofuels, as indicated in the table below.

Lower energy taxation on bio-products has been driving their blending. However, in 2020, proposals to increase excise duty rates took effect from August 1. From January 1, 2021, there was a further increase in the excise duty rate. In the following years, the excise duty rates remained at the same level as 2021. In general, even though there was an excise duty rate increase, the overall price of fossil fuels has been much higher than biofuels.
