Effort sharing directive and governance

Biofuels’ consumption in the transportation sector is also promoted through Decision No. 406/2009/EC and EU Regulation 2018/842 which set greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets for EU member states (MS) from sectors not included in the EU Emission Trading System (EU ETS). These sectors are agriculture, transport, buildings, non-ETS industry and waste. Decision No. 406/2009/EC set targets for MS to reduce their national GHG emission from 2013 to 2020, compared to 1990 levels.
