Pakistan’s gasoline specification does not set limits for other octane enhancers. In addition to ethers and metallic additives, other octane enhancers, including aniline compound may also be used.
In 2019, N-methyl aniline (NMA) was the oxygenate most comonly found in Pakistan’s gasoline samples.
In fact, in 2022, Pakistan’s Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) considered allowing NMA to replace manganese as an octane booster. it is said that several refiners, including the National Refinery, Pakistan Refinery, Attock Refinery and Byco Refinery use NMA as the octane booster for local gasoline. However, NMA has not been officially added to Pakistan’s gasoline specification.
