Electric vehicles
As of August 21, 2024, Iran produces internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and no hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs). Except for the tax incentives for EVs, the government has yet to formulate its EV policy and targets.
While the government planned to import low-emission cars, including hybrids and EVs, no such vehicles have been imported since 2022.
In 2017, Iran’s Electric Vehicle Center, under the Ministry of Energy, designed a hybrid vehicle based on an existing domestic car platform. However, the design was only moved to the prototype stage and was not produced commercially.
