Recent developments
In mid-2023, the Conformity Assessment Department of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) Standardization Organization (GSO) published the List of GSO Technical Regulation for Motor Vehicles (Model Year 2024). Under this list, diesel vehicles must meet Euro 5 emission standards from model year 2025, a one-year delay from the original plan in 2024.
GCC member countries typically implement more stringent vehicle exhaust emissions standards only when they are sure the required fuels are available on the market. As such, ultra-low sulfur diesel will likely be sold nationwide by the end of 2024.
