Exports and imports
Kuwait is a net diesel exporter. Domestic diesel demand typically accounts for 25-30% of production. The country exports ultra-low sulfur diesel, with a maximum sulfur limit of 10 mg/kg, to Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
At the end of 2022, Kuwait exported winter-grade diesel to Europe, primarily because buyers were looking for alternatives to Russia’s diesel.
The volume of diesel imports has traditionally been zero. However, in February 2024, about 261,000 barrels of diesel were imported. The figure below shows the volume of diesel imported into Kuwait in 2018-2023.
