Kuwait is a gasoline-predominant country. Diesel is typically used only in medium- to heavy-duty vehicles, non-road mobile machinery and power generation.
The country’s diesel production was relatively stagnant from 2012 to 2022. However, it was reduced from 2019 to 2021 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. It bounced back in 2023 with 235,900 barrels/day.
Compared to production, diesel consumption in Kuwait has been very low. In 2018-2021, consumption was between 48,400 b/d and 55,800 b/d. In 2022, diesel consumption increased to 60,300 b/d. The figure below shows diesel production and consumption in Kuwait from 2012 to 2022.
