Recent development
Fuel quality development in Iraq is lagging behind other countries mainly due to continued conflict affecting refineries and distributions. Thus, the government’s plan to upgrade its old refineries is often delayed. The nearest completion date of some of the upgrading project will be in 2025 (more details are available in the Refining section).
In 2017, the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control under the Ministry of Planning published the Standard Specification No. 2/1099. Two diesel specifications with a maximum sulfur limit of 10,000 mg/kg and 10 mg/kg are set under the standard.
