Russia is the biggest gasoline producer and supplier in the region. Following very lively discussions about NMA phase-out by mid-2016, the Russian refiners have increased MTBE use as well as TAME. The most popular gasoline grade remains RON 92, which may show a limited amount of ethers compared to the RON 95.

Ukraine is another large gasoline market where the share of grade RON 95 is increasing due to gasoline imports from Europe.

By the end of 2018, Kazakhstan upgraded its refineries to the 50 mg/kg sulfur content in gasoline. It managed to reduce aromatics to 35%v/v and olefins to 18%v/v. SGS sampling indicates that the country has phased out NMA and increased MTBE consumption when required. RON 92 is still the most popular grade there.
